I haven't written a blog in a long time, but I figure throughout the rest of my interviews, making my choices, and eventually, actually going to grad school, it'll be helpful for those of you who haven't applied yet. Especially those of you who are deciding whether or not to apply in the first place. You can get a taste of what I'm going through!I just had another phone interview this last Sunday. It went way better than the first one. The first one was conducted by a professor who seems very motivated and quite brilliant, and he's at a fantastic psychology school. In fact, both schools are fantastic - I was very lucky to get interviews at them. But the first one was very neuroimaging based. While I have some experience in that, I don't know a lot about the theory or analysis involved in neuroimaging. So, it was a little uncomfortable when he asked me questions about fMRI and such. But, discomfort like that suggests that I may not be a great fit at that school. We'll see. I'm probably not the best for them either, but time will tell if I get accepted there. This most recent phone interview was very good - I was much more comfortable and actually had a few intelligent things to say. I surprised myself with that. I think I just knew the topic a lot better, it was more like what I did my master's thesis on. The interviewer was a bit more casual, as well. She seemed really impressed with me, and said she had already taken the liberty of applying me for a fellowship (!!!). I really hope I can get the fellowship and get accepted. I'm supposed to find out by February 21st... hopefully a bit before then, because I have an in-person interview the 21st and 22nd. It'd be sort of awkward if they overlapped.Anyway, that's my grad school update for the day. Still waiting to see if I'll get more interviews, but time is running short for that. If it's not within the next week or two, probably not. My friends seem to be doing very well, though. One of my friends got seven interviews! Unbelievable! Or it would be, if it weren't so believable. My GAG buddies are great candidates, of course :)
